Murray started his career as a plumber, but while working out in Australia was given the opportunity to DJ at Sydney's Virgin Megastore, and decided to hang up his toolkit. On his return to the UK, he got a job working for his local radio station KCBC in Kettering. He has since presented for various local commercial radio stations including Northants 96, Q103, Power FM and BRMB before getting a gig as early breakfast DJ at Virgin Radio. Murray joined Planet Rock at the beginning of 2005 to present The Weekend Breakfast Shows.

Who in rock would you still like to meet?
I think a night out with Ozzy Osbourne, Ronnie Wood, Rod Stewart and Alice Cooper would be very memorable.

Who is your favourite group?
Favourites bands would have to include The Who, The Stones and Pink Floyd but that's as close as you'll get me to narrow it down. There are so many great artists and bands. I like them all for one reason or other.

And do you have a favourite track?
Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who. It's great musically and I like the lyrics. Pete Townshend wrote it about political revolution and corrupt politicians. I don't know exactly who he was thinking of at the time but he apparently had a number of politicians in mind. Maybe one day I'll get the chance to ask him.

What was the first album you bought?
Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. Still love it, and if I'm not playing it my wife is. She's a massive Floyd fan as well - how convenient. I think most people can say that certain tracks can immediately take you back to a time and a place - a memory. Shine On You Crazy Diamond takes me back to the first time I can remember a piece of music having an emotional effect on me. I won't say what it was.

Most memorable rock experience?
I have a few. Seeing Pink Floyd at Earls Court in 1994 was one moment, and seeing U2 live at the same venue in 2001 on the Elevation Tour was another. Going to Live 8 last summer and seeing Floyd back together, and The Who's performance, was something special too.
