Despite the various murmurings, rumours, speculation and rubbish that’s been reported everywhere, this is probably still the biggest and most exciting rock news for a decade: Arguably the most important band of all time are back together for one night in December
The concert was announced at a press conference hosted by promoter Harvey Goldsmith (the band were not in attendance) and it will be a memorial concert for former record label boss Ahmet Ertegun, who Plant described in a statement as “a major fund of solidarity and accord”. Ertegun passed away last year. To hear the interview CLICK HERE.
The tickets winners (allocated via a public lottery with only two applications per household) were notified at the beginning of October.
Pete Townsend and Bill Wyman will also appear at the show, along with Foreigner and Paolo Nutini.
There have been a couple of reformations since they officially disbanded in 1980 – notably at Live Aid in 1985 and at an Atlantic Records party in 88, but these were largely disappointing and altogether far too brief. Since then any talk of reforming has been quickly shot down by one of the band members.
However, the announcement earlier this year of a new Zep compilation, Mothership, and the re-release of The Song Remains The Same brought about new rumours that a reunion would
coincide, and despite all of the past and recent denials the speculation just wouldn’t go away.
A couple of weeks ago the rumour-mill went into meltdown when an agency started advertising tickets in a weekend newspaper. When denials were not forthcoming from the band, the rumours were basically given credence, leading fans (and probably ticket touts) to foam at the mouth with anticipation. But now the announcement has been made, we can all calm down.

Earlier this year you voted for the Top Twenty Zeppelin tracks. When the list was drawn up back in May the chances of a reunion looked about as likely as a Beatles tour, but now we can excitedly look at the list and try to work out what songs will appear in December.
